For those requiring a broad overview of the delights of Limoges, Le Petit Train runs from Limoges Tourist Office between May and October and provides an excellent introduction (with multilingual commentaries) to the historical quarters of the city during a one hour tour.

Less than 3 km from the property, the centre of Panazol is conveniently located to offer a wide range of facilities including post office, supermarkets, bars, pizza restaurants (including take away), banks with cash dispensers, bakeries, butchers, pharmacies, dry cleaners, florists and hairdressers. To relax after shopping, visit Le Parc de la Beausserie, an extensive park with charming lake surrounding the spectacular château which houses the town hall. During the summer months, the “Ville Fleurie” of Panazol is awash with colour and there is always plenty of activity including festivals, exhibitions, cultural events, firework displays and even a regular visiting circus. An annual highlight is La Limousine André-Dufraisse, an exhilarating cycling tour which passes through the town centre in early June. Every Sunday morning, a large (150 + stalls) and vibrant market occupies the town centre attracting visitors from throughout the Limousin Region.

St Just Le Martel is a small town, surrounded by picturesque Limousin countryside, a short drive from the property. Over the last 25 or so years, Saint Just Le Martel has become the acknowledged Capital of Caricature, Press and Humour Cartoons. During late September/early October, thousands of visitors, including many famous French and foreign Cartoonists and Caricaturists, travel to the town for its International Cartoon Exhibition.

At around 5 km from the property is the town of Feytiat which, since 2000, has been host to the International Pastel Festival. Acknowledged as the most important event devoted to pastel in Europe, the Festival attracts celebrity artists and about 20,000 visitors each year.

Saint Léonard de Noblat is a fine medieval city and its church is a jewel of Romanesque art. It is another important centre of porcelain production. A worthwhile visit is HistoRail, the Limousin Railway Museum which also features a miniature railway.

Aubusson is world famous for its exquisite tapestries, with its weaving still flourishing today. A greater understanding of this fascinating industry may be obtained from visiting the Musée Départmental de la Tapisserie and La Maison du Vieux Tapissier, which has Weavers’ workshops and demonstrations of tapestry making.
Oradour Sur Glane (www.oradour.org)
Some 20 km north-west of Limoges, the charred ruins of Oradour sur Glane serve as a monument of man’s inhumanity to man. This is a tribute to the events of 10 June 1944 when a detachment of German SS troops destroyed this innocent Limousin village, massacring 642 men, women and children in one of the most cruel acts of the Second Word War.
